About ACIR

What is ACIR?

ACIR (Australian Course Information Register) is a database of accredited courses offered by Australian universities, TAFE institutes and registered private colleges. The data is edited and then extracted for publication in a range of government and non-government websites and printed directories.

Which Organisations are Included on ACIR?

  • All Australian universities
  • All Australian TAFE institutes
  • Registered private colleges able to offer higher education and/or VET (Vocational Education and Training) who commit to update on ACIR at least annually

What Courses are Included on ACIR?

  • All courses must be available for entry by the general public
  • Higher education courses offered by Australian universities or registered higher education providers
  • VET courses or units of competency accredited by a national, state or territory accreditation body, as listed on training.gov.au
  • Preparatory courses such as foundation years or bridging programs in specific subjects to prepare students for tertiary studies
  • ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) courses that prepare overseas students for further university or TAFE studies

What courses are NOT Included on ACIR?

  • Non-award or non-accredited courses except for those listed above
  • Discontinued courses in teach-out mode and not taking new enrolments
  • Enterprise-only courses that are only available to employees of a specific company
  • Exit-point only courses where students are not allowed to directly enrol
  • Honours degrees unless there is no related pass degree
  • Doctor degrees by research
  • Dean's Scholars
  • Masters Preliminary

  • A Good Education Group website for international students that includes all universities, TAFEs and private colleges who advertise

  • Dept of Education and Early Childhood Development website that includes all VET courses available in Victoria
